RE: Lost in the Desert

Realizing that these two figures could be his only lead and that they had no intention of stopping, Jehuty assumed the least threatening demeanor possible and swung his rifle to the rear carry position on its 3-point sling.  He waited for the slight gesture of a wary head-turn by one of the duo that indicated attention and waved in a friendly manner, beginning his descent down the dune upon which he had been deposited.

RE: Lost in the Desert

"D'ya think we should say something?" Kyzer had asked. Nomad muttered an immediate "no". Only when the figure in the distance moved his weapon to his back did Nomad realize he even had a weapon at all. He clenched his teeth. The blinding sun made it harder to make out smaller details.

Nomad saw the wave and the newcomer begin to approach, but he wasn't about to let his guard down. He angled slightly away from Kyzer, putting a few extra feet of distance between them, before he stopped walking and turned around. In his experience, spreading out tended to have the subconscious effect of discouraging attack.

Nomad patted his satchel, moving it more to the rear, and gave Kyzer a sidelong glance to check on him.

He mulled over the situation in his head. The hand on the pistol told him Kyzer wasn't expecting this visitor, but it didn't necessarily mean it was genuine. He realized he had let his guard down toward Kyzer over the past couple of minutes, and considered that perhaps this was all a trap. Distrust the newcomer, trust Kyzer, then they pull one over on him and both turn on him.

"Hold it." Nomad called out to Jehuty. His voice was loud and commanding, but steady. One could probably tell he practiced it.

He started formulating his first escape plan. The ground to his left sloped slightly downward into a shallow sort of "pit"—it could hardly even be described as a pit, but if he flattened himself out, it was the closest to concealment he was going to get.

At the first sign of trouble, the shotgun comes out while moving laterally; one shot, don't aim too hard; pump the gun while lying down prone in the dip in the ground; resume contact.

He rehearsed it in his head, looking for flaws, while keeping a keen eye on his surroundings.

He noticed Nomad slightly move at an angle from him. He thought about this being a possible trap of some sort, but he quickly dismissed it as Nomad could've easily done whatever he wanted to when Kyzer was pinned. He glanced over at Nomad and whatched him move his satchel slightly behind him I wonder what is in there...perhaps something valuable?

It was in his nature to try and find marks, but something told him that this Nomad guy was not to be messed with.

Nomad commanded the newcomer to stop and Kyzer readied himself in case the man tried to pull a gun on them. He hoped something wasn't going to happen, if Nomad was killed he had lost his guide.

RE: Lost in the Desert

Jehuty stopped in his tracks.  He had just reached the crux of the dune he'd just descended and the one the two others stood atop.  Seeing that the two had moved apart and were both armed, he raised both arms with palms toward them in a gesture of peace and goodwill.  He could tell that both individuals were edgy and definitely not amateurs.  One held a stance he'd only seen before during a pistol tournament, used by an undefeated champion just before a winning draw.  The other seemed far too relaxed to really be, considering the tone of voice he'd just used.

"Hello there," Yelled Jehuty over the howl of a gust of wind through the trough he stood in, "I mean no harm; I'm on a quest..."  He paused, slowly taking a step forward, "A quest to find someone."

Nomad looked at Kyzer and gave a nod, approving of letting the stranger approach, but waiting for Kyzer's appraisal of the situation.

The stranger had placed himself a couple steps above the usual Menosian savage; he was doing a good job at appearing friendly, which was far more than most of the marauders he had met—and killed—could say for themselves. This could also mean he was far more deadly.

If this was a trick, the newcomer was crafty enough that at the very least, he wouldn't stab them in the backs until they had already given him something of worth.

This was about the extent of the nomad's capability of trust.

He was interested by this stranger, people normally weren't this friendly. Kyzer relaxed his grip on the gun and released a held breath. He watched as Jehuty approached, still ready to draw.

He glanced over at Nomad and then back at the newcomer. Kyzer spoke "Ya got a name? or more important a communication device of some sort?"

RE: Lost in the Desert

Jehuty took their stance change and nods as permission to mount their ridge.  Lowering his hands but keeping both palms visible to the wary individuals, he began his trek up the dune.  Though his trench coat hid most of his arsenal, he was certain that his bullpup had been spotted almost before he had touched the sand, so he did his best to maintain a non-threatening demeanor.  As he climbed, he reached into a large outer breast pocket with slow and deliberate motions and retrieved his journal as he climbed.  When he had reached the dune's apex and stood roughly between the other two, he had also found his page of sketches.

"My name is Jehuty," he announced, "I've been in search of anyone bearing this mark for many years..." He held up the journal, face out.  On one page, scratched angrily into the thick paper were a number of straight lines, none of which connected but that formed the slanted letters
"K L N"

"I don't have a radio, but my ship went straight to the most populated town in the area."  Jehuty answered, pointing Northeast, "We're only a few hours away.  May I ask your names?"

While Jehuty talked, Nomad calmly moved his shotgun from under his cloak and slung it on his shoulder, careful to do so in a non-threatening manner. His fingers were getting tired holding it by the barrel.

He hardly gave the journal a look. His red eyes were studying Jehuty instead. Jehuty had not asked a direct question of them regarding the letters in his journal, so Nomad did not see fit to comment.

Nomad nodded at the mention of northeast, the direction they had already been traveling; he had not known to begin with that he would find a settlement there, but his intuition for such things was usually good.

At the question of names, Nomad repeated, "Just call me Nomad."

He was itching to continue, but he wasn't about to take the lead and turn his back to these strangers.

Kyzer examined the marking and it looked familiar. "My name is Kyzer...K,L,N...KLN, Y'know I think I've seen that before" he racked his brain trying to remember what it was on. Finally he remembered "Yeah, it was on a piece of mining equipment my crew and I used to dig the underground portion of our base."

He looked up at the sky and then slightly turned away from the other two.

"Let's get going, the sooner we get there the better."

His released the grip he had on his pistol when he finally decided Jehuty wasn't a threat.

"Really?" Jehuty's face brightened when he heard Kyzer's oration, then darkened as he thought things through.

"I assume since you asked for a communicator that you don't have one.  We'll need to get to that village and onto my ship to get back to your base...  You're right; we'd better get moving."

Jehuty pocketed his journal and made ready to continue Northeast.
