Lost in the Desert

"Get down!" Kyzer yelled through the gunfire. He hadn't expected the small convoy to be so heavily armed. Ba-ting! A bullet ricocheted off a nearby steel plat and whizzed by Kyzer's head. The first strike went off without a hitch, his crew rolled in and disabled the lead vehicle with an EMP blast and they rushed in. Unfortunantly the convoy had hired some heavily armed mercs for protection, and they were good at their job.

Shaun dove into the dirt next to Kyzer and spoke. "Sir, oi think it's best if we pull out, we're getting pounded pretty 'ard" Kyzer nodded and turned his communicator on. "Mako! bring the vehicle around we're gonna leg it!"
A voice crackled over the communicator "Cheers, be there in a minute have the boys be ready ta ride."

Mako rolled up to the battlefield with their vehicle, suddenly an explosion rocked the battlfield. Kyzer cussed under his breath and searched for the source of the explosion. Apparantly someone hit an ammunition cache within one of the convoy vehicles and it detonated, sending dbris into the sky. Kyzer regained his senses and hearing and yelled "Leg it!" several members of the crew began to run towards the tank.

Suddenly Kyzer felt something heavy peg him, in the head. He fell down and felt weight pinning him down. Shaun -or at least someone who he thought was Shaun- ran over to his side and tried to moved the debris off him. Kyzer's vision was fading and his ears were ringing, and his head hurt. Someone yelled something to the effect of "Leave him! we don't have time to save him!" Shaun tried in vain to move the debris before taking off towards the group. Kyzer mumbled something incoherent before falling unconscious.

Eventually his mind decided to work again and it was almost surreal. He felt dead and thought he was, what if he didn't even exist? He was on a plane, the only passenger and he heard a voice over the intercom.
That which has no attributes does not and cannot exist.
Do I have attributes? of course...if I didn't I couldn't be thinking this...
Existence exists...Existence is Identity"
I have an identity, I am Kyzer Inaka.
Are you? or are you simply a creation of someone's mind, do you exist simply because you have feelings, hopes, dreams, desires, and a name. Are you real? What makes you...you?
The plane shook and began to dive.
I am real...I know I am I am me...I exist!"

The plane began to crack and it hit the ground. Suddenly Kyzer was greeted by the blinding sun and weight of the debris pinning him. He tried to shift out from under it, but it didn't work. "That was trippy..." Kyzer took a deep breath and yelled for help.

RE: Lost in the Desert

(OOC: I'll join in with a temporary character to try to get you going, if that's fine with you. Smile)

If he listened carefully, Kyzer could have heard footsteps in the sand.

A man approached from the right. He was in a desert nomad's attire, red and brown rags hanging from him, all tattered and ripped, and topped with a dirty and ripped cloak. His head was concealed by a shemagh.

In his hands was an old-looking pump shotgun pointed vaguely at Kyzer, and he was approaching slowly, eyes darting around.

If Kyzer said anything, the man didn't seem to hear it. Once he was within a few feet of Kyzer, he walked a circle around him, inspecting him carefully. Seemingly satisfied, he slipped the shotgun's ratty sling over his shoulder, crouched beside the debris, and tried to lift it. It began to budge slightly, but he wasn't making a lot of headway.

Finally, he took the shotgun, wedged the buttstock under the debris and, using it as a lever and his knee as the fulcrum, lifted the weight off of Kyzer enough that he would be able to pull himself out. Still having not said a word, he nodded his head to imply that Kyzer should move out from under it.

RE: Lost in the Desert

Kyzer nodded towards the mysterious man and crawled out from under the debris. He walked over to his pistol that was thrown from his hand. With a twirl he holstered it and turned towards the man. He retrieved his hat and spoke "Thanks, not many would stop to help someone in need..."

He looked around at the wreckage and walked over to a rather large piece. He began to scavange what was left and found a few clips of ammo and several other things. Kyzer knew that it wasn't much, but it was better than nothing. He looked over his shoulder "your quiet...ya got a name? Mine is Kyzer..." He checked his communicator and noticed it was damaged pretty bad.

The man's shotgun seemed to be following Kyzer, never pointing directly at him, but it was ready. He stood firmly planted as he watched Kyzer retrieve the pistol and begin digging around the wreckage.

There was a long pause after Kyzer asked his name. When he finally spoke, he had an old man's voice, raspy and a bit phlegmy.

"It's better if you just call me Nomad."

Kyzer walked over to another piece of wreckage andbegan scavenging it for a communicator or radio of some kind. He sighed and turned towards the man when he found nothing. "Nomad, interesting name..." he thought about trying to rob the man, but decided it was against his best interests.
"You wouldn't happan to have a radio or something would you?" he had no idea which way led towards his hideout, or how far. The shifting dunes obscured any usable landmarks and travelling without GPS of some sort would be difficult.

'Nomad' shook his head no at the question. He pointed off in another direction.

"You can try to pick up your companions' trail there, or," He pointed in another direction, "You can follow me northeast. I should find a settlement by midnight."

Kyzer hadn't said anything about companions, of course, but Nomad had deduced from the scene some idea of what had happened.

It was easy to tell that with the wind as it was, while not exactly roaring, tracks would be heavily obscured by now. It wouldn't be impossible to trace, but it would definitely be difficult.

There was a distant thrum in the air. A few moments later, it came again; a growling burst. Probably some kind of vehicle. Nomad looked at Kyzer.

"Now would be a good time to decide."

Kyzer stood up and listened to the sound of tracks. If his crew was with him he would stage an ambush, but unfortunantly they were not. He looked over his soulder at Nomad and then at the faded tracks.

He sighed and walked over to the man "I'll follow you, although I don't know what will happen at the settlement I have a bit of a *ahem* reputation."

He tried his communicator again and it sparked before shorting out. "Let's go, the sooner we get there the better..."

RE: Lost in the Desert

[Continued from Jehuty's Journal - Entry 1]

Jehuty had originally planned on landing in Spekkti, the only small village sunside of the equator that seemed to have a makeshift spaceport and traffic control.  Once he got inside Menos's atomosphere, though, the nav computer ran a priority alert and showed planetary footage South by Southwest of Spekkti of what looked like gunfire and light vehicle combat only an hour ago.  Jehuty quickly made course corrections for Wasp to drop him off at the recent combat zone and then self-dock at the small spaceport (just about the limit of the nav computer's automation capability).

-Minutes later-

Dust and sand funneled outward from Wasp's propulsion systems and Jehuty wrapped an extra shirt around his face to avoid unnecessary sensory inhibition and leapt to the desert floor.  The familiar insect-like whine of thrusters deafened him for a moment as his ship regained minimal cruising altitude in a matter of seconds and angled toward its predetermined destination.  Taking note of the direction in which Wasp was fast disappearing in correspondence to Menos's setting sun, Jehuty surveyed the dunes stretching in every direction, their monotony only broken by the rubble from the recent skirmish.  As the rumbling echo from Wasp's secondary afterburners rolled back toward Jehuty from the horizon, his eyes locked on two figures not 50 yards away.

RE: Lost in the Desert

They had started toward the northeast when the hum of the vehicle grew suddenly louder. Nomad looked up toward the sky, drawing the shotgun closer to himself, and watched a craft—Jehuty's Wasp—move toward the wreckage with great speed, coming to a sudden stop and hovering above the sand. He would have preferred to get to cover before he was seen, but it was too open and he determined that his best bet was to just act nonchalant.

He didn't stop walking, however. He kept his pace constant, only keeping an eye over his shoulder on the figure standing near the wreckage. As an afterthought, he did his best to conceal his shotgun under his cloak while still keeping it easily at hand. He didn't want to appear as a threat until he got a better look at this newcomer.

The ground ahead of Nomad and Kyzer sloped up toward the top of a tall dune, about a hundred-fifty yards away, and spilled away out of sight. Nomad hoped to make it there before the newcomer decided to approach them—if he did at all—but he knew it was a long shot.

He could see the newcomer turn to face them. He watched for hostile movement and anything that might look like a weapon and just kept walking.

RE: Lost in the Desert

(Hey does anyone know the hex number for a brownish tan color?)

Kyzer heard the craft fly closer to them and he reched for his pistols. He didn't draw them for he was fairly confident in his abilities to draw faster than someone could pull a trigger. He had never had to demonstrate this ability, but he was pretty fast on the draw and accurate with it too.

Playing "cool" just wasn't his style and the silence was awkward for him. However he followed Nomad's lead, hoping he knew what he was doing. His left hand was still on the pistol grip, whilst his right hand was hanging by his side.

The tall dune was farthest from Kyzer's mind as he readied himself for the newcomer to just begin firing at them. Living first in Ellix and then on Menos for a good portion of his life helped him to harbor the philosophy "Expect the worst, because your most likely right."

Kyzer noticed Nomad taking a much calmer, but watchfull approach to this. After a few moments of silence Kyzer finally spoke "d'ya think we should say something?"
