Neil Castle Some Crazy Merc Dominion Master 4/11/2008 10:44:20 AM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 125 | RE: The Mist of Wist It seems like it takes a really long time to go what the big guy said is a half mile. But that's probably because it did take a long time, since they seemed to be moving rather sneakylike. But they do get there—and without dying! Imagine that. Jack leads his men to one of the many piles of rubble and looks out into an opening inside the city, so of course Neil joins them. Either the big ape guys took a whole building with them or this was some sort of park or courtyard; "was" being the key word, since it's all just a giant hole straight down now. Neil doesn't see anything killer out there, but he's not about to charge out without the guys with bigger guns than he. Neil: Maybe they're building a really deep pool. Man (Pat): Rippov don't swim. Water is poisonous to them. Neil looks perplexed and looks at Pat. Neil: You can't be serious. That's stupid. Pat: I'm not. I made it up. Neil looks as confused as ever. Pat grabs a rock and throws it into the opening in the city and listens as it clatters across the concrete and pavement. They wait. Nothing happens. Pat: Creeplings hate that. Jack: Looks like it's clear. Let's go. Low and slow. They head out into the clearing, looking around very carefully. Neil nonchalantly wanders over to the edge of the gigantic hole and looks down. As expected, he can't see the bottom. There's a sort of precarious dirt ramp spiraling downward around the edge. It's steep and wet, so Neil doesn't exactly want to venture onto it. He turns to Szyren, wherever she is. Neil: Uh, do you know where underground this corpse is? |
Szyren Phoenix in Training 4/12/2008 7:20:48 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 122 | RE: The Mist of Wist Szyren makes a face like she's thinking. Szyren: I think the exact words he used were: The Core. So that either means somewhere in the middle of the moon-planet, or there is an underground city somewhere down there called "The Core". She nods her head very matter-of-factly. She takes a minute to examine the hole before them, and seems completely non-plussed. She turns to Jack. Szyren: Excuse me, Mr. Sprat. Do you know of an underground city called The Core? OR does that sound very clearly like the exact middle of this moon-hell we've landed on? She looks around. Szyren: And where is the elevator? Sometimes you get a better perspective of things when they're up-side-down. |
Short Billy Gold Captain and Crew of the Frozen Chicken Pirate Dominion Master 4/12/2008 7:59:47 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 21 | RE: The Mist of Wist Jack almost appears annoyed by Szyren's habit of making up names for him. Jack: I know of no city underground, but I've never been very far underground. It's suicide going down there. We're only here to find out what the hole is for. One of the rag-tag soldiers stares dumbfounded at the gaping hole. Soldier: Whatever it's for has gotta be big. Jack appears stunned by how blatantly obvious that statement was. In fact, everyone does. They choose not to pursue it. Pat: Weird that no one's around. I wonder if whatever the hole's for has already been and gone. Jack peers over the edge into the gaping blackness. There's nothing down there. Jack: Well, get that equipment set up before someone does show up. Pat begins to unpack a small video camera that's hardwired into a radio transmitter. He climbs onto some rubble and squeezes it into a crack in a wall near a second story window. He pulls a small LCD monitor out of his pack and plugs it into the camera to position it for the best shot of the hole and the immediate area. He unplugs it and puts it away, climbing back down to the ground. Pat: Done. I hope we can get the signal back at the base. Jack: Roger that. Let's move out. He turns to Neil and Szyren. Jack: I guess this is where we part ways, unless you've decided to come back with us. The Rippov presence up here is nothing compared to what you'll find down there. Best of luck to you... |
Imelda Failte Captain of the Red Water Space Pirate 4/12/2008 10:28:08 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 28 | RE: The Mist of Wist Meanwhile back in another part of town. Imelda is crouching being a pile of cooled molten metal. There is a big hole in a steel wall next to her. She tries not to think about what kind of weapon could go through something like that. It doesn't work. She starts thinking about how she wished she had a weapon like that on her ship. Likely to never happen. They make their way slowly to a sewer entrance on what is left of a road. It's very wet and there is oil draining down the road from a recent Rippov hole that had recently opened. Imelda thinks to herself about how interesting this odd fact is. The people in front of her climb down the sewer opening in the road, and splash down into the pipes as quietly as possible. Which given their size, is not very quiet, esspecially with all the water down there right now. Imelda makes her way down, Billy right behind her. Imelda swears he purposefully stepped on her foot as they made their way down. She thinks about taking out her pistol and just ridding the universe of him right there, but it's just not worth the effort. As the last person is making their way down and closing the lid, a howl can be heard fairly close by, up on the street. Buck: Yo, Zorishes. Quiet, y'all. |
Szyren Phoenix in Training 4/15/2008 4:45:25 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 122 | RE: The Mist of Wist Szyren looks blankly at Jack. Szyren: Wait. What? You're not going down? She blinks a few times for good measure. Szyren: You took all these people out here just to put on a bumper sticker, and now you're just gonna pop back to home base? She crosses her arms over her chest and becomes very very quiet. She looks at Neil expectantly and her glare speaks volumes. Szyren's Eyes: Well, don't you have something to say about all this? You can't just let them leave. We'll have no protection when we go spelunking. Sometimes you get a better perspective of things when they're up-side-down. |
Neil Castle Some Crazy Merc Dominion Master 4/15/2008 5:13:06 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 125 | RE: The Mist of Wist Szyren's fiery eyes are saying something, though horribly quietly, and Neil is too distracted by how "fiery" is spelled. But he snaps out of it and judges from the offended manner in which Szyren spoke that her eyes are saying to do something about it. Neil: Tell your eyes to speak up, I can't hear them. He turns to Jack. Neil: Despite your having no reason whatsoever to follow us underground, I request that you aid us sheerly out of human compassion. He turns to Szyren and shrugs. Neil: I don't even want to go down there. |
Short Billy Gold Captain and Crew of the Frozen Chicken Pirate Dominion Master 4/15/2008 5:16:24 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 21 | RE: The Mist of Wist Jack: Did you happen to miss the army of ugly nerf herders we killed for you back at the river? That's why all these people came. You're still welcome to come back with us, but I can't order anyone to risk his life just for you to go treasure hunting. It's hard enough just to survive each day being as cautious as possible. Neil says something about human compassion. Jack: I don't think anyone would follow you out of human compassion. More like human insanity. Jack was probably going to say something else, but Pat slaps his shoulder to get his attention. Pat: Yo, Jack. Pachees headed this way. Jack: We gotta move. You can come with us or go down the hole, I don't care. I wouldn't suggest you stay here though. The men begin moving cautiously down the road from which they came. |
Szyren Phoenix in Training 4/16/2008 12:03:10 AM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 122 | RE: The Mist of Wist Szyren: Slag on a stick. Szyren looks down the hole once again and considers her options. They seem very limited at the moment. Szyren: You know... we don't even have a way back up if we wanted to abandon this little mission. Which I don't. So the chances are, we'll die anyways. Might as well die trying to accomplish something, right? She looks at Neil and shrugs. Szyren: Maybe Imelda will help us. At least we know where there is a giant hole to go cave diving in when we round up enough big guns. She pauses and counts on her fingers. For no reason at all. It doesn't even seem like an appropriate thing to do given the circumstances. Szyren: I guess we should go with Mr. Daniels. Sometimes you get a better perspective of things when they're up-side-down. |
kairne Mind Destroyer 4/16/2008 12:35:38 AM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 58 | RE: The Mist of Wist Truth sighs in relief that the conflict is over and follows the little group. "So Imelda, is it?" his voice almost mocked as they made their way to the sewer entrance "Why are you and Billy ready to kill eachother?". He came down last watching out for any Rippov that might emerge from the desolate landscape. He closes the lid as he slides down. He grins as the Zorish howls "perhaps I will get some action after all." He retrieves a pocket watch and looks down at it "just checkin' the time". He fiddles with the dial at the top setting it to a specific time and presses the button. shing a keylike object slides out of it. HE takes the key and unlocks his Wraith as it hums to life he pockets the pocket watch and pulls back on his gloves. Truth notes the position of the group and moves to where he wouldn't be the first one killed from either side. He aims his Wraith at the manhole and awaits for it to open. your mind is my playground |
Neil Castle Some Crazy Merc Dominion Master 4/17/2008 1:57:57 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 125 | RE: The Mist of Wist Neil: I don't know what "pachees" are, but I don't want to stand here when they're coming to pach me. He stands there. Neil: So I'm going with Mr. Daniels. He pulls the bottle out of his pocket and begins to pop the top off. Neil: Wait. He thinks. Neil: I don't drink. What was I doing? He closes the bottle and pockets it again. His eyes fall on Jack's group, who have gained a good dozen yards on them. Neil: Oh yeah, them. I'll go with them. He starts to walk off in their direction, hoping Szyren would follow. He certainly wouldn't want her to stand here counting her fingers by herself. Neil: By the way, I wholeheartedly agree with your proposition to request the aid of those pirates to go treasure hunting. It's difficult to tell how sarcastic he is. From his tone, it's not at all. |
