Freya

(hey guys, just want to note here that I'll be experiencing significantly sparser Internet access for a week.  Hopefully things will pick up when I'm back Smile )

Freya gave it some thought before answering, "First of all, don't worry about covering the mic, I'm not broadcasting live.  Second, I think you might be the best judge of whether 'experimental' is appropriate.  If Jara agrees, then let us go with your intuition."

As to what Tenerife could see of Freya, she had a very good picture. The geometry of interplanetary distances on optics and radiometry made it certain that he was too far away to resolve anything but Freya's ion trail and the molecular debris cloud of the Calamitous.

Freya added, "He will not be able to find out much about me until about six hours before intercept.  That gives us the freedom to present ourselves as we wish.  Another aid in pacify Tenerife might be to record and transmit a video of Piet in captivity. Interested?"

RE: Space Station F.R.E.Y.A.

Well, most of this wasn't her strong point, but it sounded solid enough. She idly flicked through some useless information on her on board computer.

"experimental is a good way to explain the uniqueness of Freya's structure and abilities, you could film a shot of Mr. Piet in captivity, but don't offer it, make him ask and if Freya has the imaging capacity maybe you want to let her animate it after the shot, so that you can play both Piet and Nigel if he decides to talk to your imprisoned form, I recommend a blindfold to make animation easier."

Eyes always seemed to be the hardest part to animate properly, even with most modern computer made movies...

"Alright, then you can go ahead and transmit this. Let's get me blindfolded and beat up, and we can shoot some grody prison scenes - I think it'll do a lot to reassure mister Dark, hehehe," Kapitein Piet laughed.

(also: change the subjects of your posts so that it says "space station FREYA" when on the space station, and "On board the Krakatao" when from the Dark Lord's perspective. Then you guys can also write for him whenever you want, without risk of confusion.)

RE: Space Station F.R.E.Y.A.

The humans seemed to like the idea of a video of an imprisoned Piet.  The small and bare hotel-rooms would make for an excellent cell. After sending the radio message, Freya set to raising Truckbot's eyes and producing a set of restraints and other props while Jara and Piet made up a script.

Freya's avatar was to act as a mute guardbot.  Jara would be an officer beating Piet, and a digital overlay would add the voice of "Captain Nigel" supposedly viewing the footage from the bridge.

Jara was out of Belladonna again, she felt odd about being in the position of the person doing the beating, she wasn't exactly strong, and her suit would mostly show that, but there was no one else, and they didn't really have many options.

She tried to think of how she could act in the role she was supposed to play, this would be difficult....

As she hashed out the script, she brought out her hidaway knife and reattached it in plain view, a person like that wouldn't hide weapons, they preferred to flaunt them, and bluff. Unfortunately that also meant she'd lost her only edge against Piet, and she eyed him warily as she did so.

RE: Space Station F.R.E.Y.A.

Kapitein Piet saw her suspicious looks and decided to ignore them. Nothing he could say or do could cause a vetted spaceship pilot to trust him - these things took time, so he'd just focus on getting the job done and let interpersonal relationships work themselves out.

Like he always does.

Acting out a little scene for the Dark Lord was actually entertaining in itself. Getting to comment on it with dry Cockney wit in his role as pack leader was almost too much. Kapitein Piet hoped he was convincing enough...

RE: On board the Krakatau

The Dark Lord of Tenerife enjoyed the next transmission. His right eyelid jerked each time that skinny little tramp whipped the old man.

Ahhh, just what he deserves, that Kapitein Piet!, he thought. Then he corrected himself, and said, "It would be nice to have the opportunity to administer his punishment personally. Won't you grant me the chance?" he continued, in mock subservience.

"No! Cancel that transmission, leftenant!" he shrieked. Mock subservience was not acceptable when dealing with those Hound dogs. Only clear unambiguous commands.

Then again, Kapitein Piet was so good as dog food, in their hands. Intelligence reported that their experimental station possessed weaponry matching a small capital ship - at least a large corvette. Escape was practically impossible. And Piet had been the third dog taking the bone in more than a few encounters, he had heard. Tenerife had the feeling that Kapitein Piet was in a suitable place - suitable for his demise...

One last item.

"Witch!!! I want an answer!" he roared. The poor struggling soul lifted her head from the floor and answered, "Yes, sire." And dropped it again.

"Is Kapitein Piet afraid for his life?" he asked?

She said nothing until the electric shocks became unbearable. "Nnn...nna..nononnnoooo..."

And then she died.

The Dark Lord turned to the technician. "Well?"

"Ahh, Sir. She either answered truthfully and died from the stress, or she had a personal reaction to some powerful feedback from Kapitein Piet, which killed her. There's really no way to tell - her EEG's were all over the spectrum - it's just chaos..."

"YOU FOOL! Get out of my sight. And don't let this happen ... again."

He stood silently for a while, studying the little image of the space station on the giant main screen. Then he turned and said, "We've wasted enough time here already. Our work here is done. Send them an SOP adieu, may-they-rot-in-hell, engage the drives, plot a course for base Gamma. MOVE IT!"

RE: On board the Krakatau

(Jara, do you want to elaborate on what happened in the cell?  I think it's got potential for character development, since it seems that Jara was kind of pushed into torturing this poor guy... by him and a sentient space-station.  Um, yeah...)

During the time it took for the radio-messages to pass, the Krakatau had been rapidly accelerating towards Freya, causing a subtle Doppler-shift in the radiation signature picked up by Freya's near-optical telescope.  Just a few seconds after she received the last message, Freya's sensors showed that the battleship's radiation profile stopped blue-shifting and began to shift towards the red. Habit forced her to go through calculations on the shape of the signal distribution to determine whether this signaled a change of temperature or a change of direction, but she already knew what she'd find.  The ruse worked, and the Dark Lord of Tenerife was leaving the area.

The android smiled as she tossed the transmission to the tablet on the kitchen table.  She said, "Good job, my friends, it seems like the Lord of Tenerife is leaving! I think we are safe."

Space Station FREYA

That must have been the most awkward experience in her life. Jara heaved a sigh, and quite happily dropped the whip.... Why did Freya keep such a thing around anyway?.... She refrained from letting her mind answer that question.

As she dropped out of the act her hair came into her face again as she returned to her slouch, she shivered slightly. For the first time in a long time she thought that maybe the pressure suit was a little inadequate as standard clothing.

She made her choppy step to Piet, distinctly annoyed at the gravity being so high, her tolerance gone with all the uncomfortable thoughts flowing though her head. She untied him and then stepped back watching him with a stare that may have been slightly more suspicious than when she'd shown her knife. Otherwise she said nothing.

She felt kind of vulnerable after acting more like a girl, and flaunting herself like that.... she wanted another shower....

RE: Space Station FREYA

After the ordeal was over, Kapitein Piet noticed Jara's unease and decided it would be best to leave her alone to sort herself out.

Then he noticed something else. There was something lacking - something he had never really realized he had. An empty space somewhere deep inside...

What did it mean? Did it have something to do with the Dark Lord's change in attitude?

Suddenly he realized: she was dead.

No reason to dwell on that now. Or ever. His crew was gone; his days of piracy, over. Nothing remained, except... what?

"So Freya, my mechanical captain. What's up next?"
