TheWalruss Starcey Crystal 1/28/2009 4:03:28 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 44 | RE: Of Spaceport Markets (Actually, in a meta-comment earlier I said that about deep conversation, but everything turned out well, anyway. As far as I'm concerned, we can remove these comments for the benefit of the story and readability - I'll change it from "deep" to "involved", and the flow is still very natural) Starcey was disappointed that Raelan was uninterested in Cerania, and cringed at his question. Lao-Tzu, on the other hand, seemed to like her suggestion. But why? And the scheming and the gaming picked up where it left off. All of the previous day's events and all of its lessons were wiped clean by a single opportunity to gain just a little bit of territory or influence. Lao-Tzu knows about that stupid metaphor. Cerania would be the stinking morass, my source. I can use that - Raelan respects Lao-Tzu; if Lao-Tzu says Cerania is cool, then it's cool. It doesn't seem Raelan has any other plans... let's go. Having quickly formulated a new plan and regained her footing, she replied to Lao-Tzu and Raelan simultaneously, but with a distinct message for each: "I was born there - I'd like to see it. Learning about your origins can be important, I think." Starcey paused to let the words sink in - she intended for them to be profoundly meaningful in different ways for the both of them - and maybe all three. "You have a transport, Raelan. Does that thing have a hyperspace thing, or a whatsit, you know?" She was quite aware it was called a hyperspace drive, but it never hurt to play the ignorant female sometimes. Raelan did seem like a high-testosterone kind of fellow - even for an elf - definitely something she could use to her advantage. |
Raelan inventor/mage 2/4/2009 1:01:13 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 94 | RE: Of Spaceport Markets (my bad was trying to wait for Dante. I meant no disrespect, I didn't even know that was disrespectful... the dash creates a sort of separation in my mind so the first part would be like a first name, or nickname.... those are all excuses, I'm just lazy and want to try to find ways around typing out Lao-Tsu all the time) His enthusiasm flickered for a second, and his face became straight as he began running some equations. The image this girl was putting out kept fragmenting, she'd be one thing, then another, however the hunter beneath all that never seemed to change. That meant that everything she's done used the same core, and it wasn't likely a personality disorder, least not the kind people usually see shrinks for. Which meant that she was putting out facades and mirages. He'd gotten too involved. externally his face straightened out, losing all the goofiness and mirth, and then he closed his eyes and took a deep long slow breath. He used this technique to realign his vibration, to straighten out his energy and his mind, and calm down. muscles all over his body relaxed, and he was no longer leaning forward and involved. He opened his eyes again, thoughts more clear now... Why did he always forget to use that trick? Snapping back to the conversation at hand he thought it over, she was likely pretending, anyone who wanted to get off planet that bad could at least remember the name hyperdrive, and with that monster of a bike outside, a girl isn't likely to ride one without a stronger masculine, likely technical side. Raelan didn't know her well enough to know what she was playing at, but Lao-Tsu liked the idea of Cerania, and Raelan trusted him. This girl, he realized, was not a toy, she's dangerous. Of course that didn't make her uninteresting. His soft smile came back. Well we'll see what happens. "Hyperdive yes, actually I was over Cerania yesterday, that's why I read up on it. I still have a demonstration to do, and after that, and maybe we'll talk a little more, I have a thought for Lao-Tsu, we could drop in on Cerania. Dante here seems to have business as well, I suppose I'll have to work hard to make a 'good enough' model of my pilot system, maybe there's a pilot on Cerania with a cybernetic arm who'll be interested in the first model. And they Should have Liandrin shield crystals there somewhere." He realized how fragmented what he'd just said was, he needed to focus more, he hadn't realized he was that far off center. He turned his neck, popping it, and shifted his back, loosening up his spine a little, he usually had to straighten out the bones too when the muscles got that involved. |

Lao-tzu Ancient Thinker 2/18/2009 4:11:14 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 56 | RE: Of Spaceport Markets Lao-tzu's smile wavered a little when he noticed Starcey's relapse into unnecessary intrigue. Perhaps it was necessary that he tag along and keep his eye on the two. For a moment, he began considering how he might insert himself into this trip without letting Starcey know what he was up to, but then he realized that this was the game she was playing. So instead of beating around the bush, the wizard simply said, "I think I'd like to join your voyage to Cerania, if it won't burden you too much. It is a dangerous place, Raelan. You realize that Starcey needs a chaperone but you will be distracted by business and engineering. Starcey, you're a clever girl, I hope you will accept a guide and a protector on this first trip off-planet." |
Raelan inventor/mage 2/18/2009 11:20:47 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 94 | RE: Of Spaceport Markets Raelan nodded, what Lao-Tsu said was true enough, and there were multiple other possible reasons for what he said, none of which Raelan took for particularly insulting. "Well, I'm alright with it, I can clear the space, but the rest isn't my decision. I'll let you two hash this out, and prep for my demo outside." Dante appeared to be lost deep in his own little world of thought, but he hadn't seemed interested in Raelan's magic anyway, he hoped he could sort out whatever was troubling him so badly. Raelan chuckled again as he passed through the threshold, such a beautifully simple concept, and he'd never thought of it. He shook his head, as he walked a little distance from the building, and erected the detection sphere. He was faster this morning than last night, his aura still felt stretched and a little sickly, but it was healed enough for general use without too much difficulty. He commenced playing with his aura, collecting it, swirling it around hands and arms like a snake, changing his mood, and chakra bias to change its color. Eventually he began an odd sort of dance, weaving himself around almost like a poor version of mock combat. as he did he swirled and wound his energy around him in different shades and colors, it was, apparently, his dance partner. His wings tail, and other false appendages grew more apparent as he absorbed ambient energy from the surroundings, somehow the dance seemed to accelerate the process. Things you learn, bored and alone in the wilderness. |
TheWalruss Starcey Crystal 2/19/2009 6:11:43 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 44 | RE: Of Spaceport Markets Starcey said to Lao-Tzu, "Well, I'm ready to leave, if you are. Let's go out and see this demo he's so excited about." She was careful to stay outside the detection sphere this time... |
Raelan inventor/mage 2/20/2009 7:26:52 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 94 | RE: Of Spaceport Markets Raelan halted his little 'dance' as soon as he caught sight of Starcey, a little embarrassed, he'd expected them to be longer. However the momentum and effect of the dance kept his aura visibly swirling around him. He partial smiles at Starcey and nods, trying to pass his silliness off, then quells most of the red out of his aura and puddles an amount into his palms prepping to cast. |
Dante Eccentric Assasin 2/21/2009 11:16:12 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 42 | RE: Of Spaceport Markets (Explanation for absence: My family was planning on moving and the power went out on our block. And because of that and some "Circumstances" we moved about a month ahead of schedule. We finally got the internet hooked up at our new place tonight. If you wouldn;t mind catching me up it'd be greatly apprexiated. Anxiety is the essential condition of intellectual and artistic creation |

Dante Eccentric Assasin 2/23/2009 7:15:45 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 42 | RE: Of Spaceport Markets Dante juggled thoughts in his head, all while paying full attention to the conversation. He could pick up hidden motives from Starcey, but decided to keep quiet. He thought 'for once in my life I'll be "normal" magic won't affect me'. Dante clutched at his magical scar, it felt oddly cold compared to the rest of his body. He weighed the pros and cons, whether he would like to admit it or not magic had saved his life more than once. It was his subconscious protector, his guardian angel. He thought about going to Cerania with them. He checked his Orion Communicator and scrolled through some hits Ladimore picked for him. She was rather good at finding contracts Dante would like she understood his "Righteous Killer" ideals. He was beginning to have a headache, the cinders of his magic were again beginning to expand into a blaze. For a few days after he stifles his magic like he did earlier he is extremely sensitive to magic and the natural magic of this place was getting to him. He came upon one "Alex Morian" wanted for murder of several people and several other crimes. He seemed to be a sociopathic gang leader. Dante had encountered sociopaths before and he hated assignments to take them out. His current residence is believed to be on Cerania. "Looks like I'll come along to Cerania, I have a job there, but there is one stipulation. I work alone, we can be in contact but I'll stay alone...and I‘ll help you guys when I can ok?" he told the others before they left. Dante stared at Lao-tsu for a long while "Tell me...what would you do in my situation." Suddenly he changed his mind "Never mind, don't tell me. This is my decision, my curse I shall make it alone. I've decided to keep my magic as it is until I can find some kind of panacea for it." He had made up his mind and seemed determined to stick with it. (Sorry if this post skips around on topics alot it is intended to be liek that Dante is thinknig about a lot of stuff at once and juggling thoughts around) |
