RE: Tenga Cuidado con Piedras

William scratches his chin and when Star is done with her explanation, he turns to the doctor again.

William: Doctor, what about Balinor’s hand?  It looked pretty badly broken.
Doctor: I need her to be in a stable condition before I can proceed with any type of treatment for her injuries.  I've run a basic diagnostic, though, and it looks much worse than it actually is.  She’s only fractured the metacarpal in her little finger, which will have to be set.  She's also dislocated her shoulder, though from the tissue scarring there, I'd say this has happened before.  Like I said, she'll be fine in a few hours.  Now, you can either hover in here or make yourselves useful elsewhere. I'll have Tucker find you when she's awake.

The doctor makes it pretty clear which choice he thinks is better.  William nods--

William: I think we'll take this discussion outside.

--and, placing a hand on the middle of Star's back, escorts her out of the room.  Tucker is severely disappointed to be left out.

Once outside, he sizes Star up for the first time.

William: I had to get Balinor off my mind before I started dealing with your problems too.

He takes a beat to collect his thoughts and formulate a logical stream of consciousness.

William: Now let me see if I understand.  Your ship was being attacked and that's why you crashed.  That probably means that this planet was not your choice, or else you would have probably chosen Tonfe or... Vansid, more like, since you can find all kinds of technological wonders there, but this planet was the most convenient place for you to land.  What was attacking you, I don't want to know.

As a side note, he adds--

William: I know what a hyperjump is, by the way, but thanks for that.

--before returning to his original train of thought.

William: So then you came to this facility because it was the only thing around, and you really have no clue where you are, correct?  You planned on busting in and utilizing our system’s databases to discover your location and the best place on this planet to repair yourself.  Which tells me that you are unaware of our situation.
But I have to tell you something: whoever was flying your ship couldn't have picked a worse place to crash, even if this planet was the optimal place, this location is… inadequate for what you’re seeking.
And then there’s the fact that you don't seem to care, really, that everyone you were traveling with has died, which tells me that your survival is your number one objective and everyone else is expendable.  I know you’re an android, but to at least take some kind of stock in human life is admirable.  You seem less A.I. and more computer.
Anyway, I have to say it's good that all your comrades died in a blaze of glory, since all they would find here is death by a more... horrific means.

William pauses to see if he is at all remotely accurate in his assessment of the situation.

RE: Tenga Cuidado con Piedras

Star seems to listen with great amount of patience, though it probably wasn't all that surprising with most thing. She didn't seem to resist his escort eariler either, which was likely a good thing.

"I activated only twenty-three hours ago and I am having trouble accessing any databases that might have originally given me more information. I don't even know who is after me, nor where I woke up at, where I escaped from, or where this place is. At least in that, you're correct. A.I. stands for artifical intelligence as you no doubt know, but intelligence implies the ability to reason and learn, it does not imply the basis of personality or even knowledge. So, it'd be a better assessment if you compared a computer to a human rather than an A.I." She pauses for a bit for William to soak that up for a moment. "Furthermore, the events leading to my escape and capture forced me onto the ship that had crashed and thus here." She pauses once again, seemingly a slightly longer one, almost as if she was thinking.

"Should I have cared for their lives or pretend to? Afterall, they forced me onto their ship without premission, choose to put themselves in the dangerous situation, and choose to fight back against the attackers that had wished to board their ship. I would have to say it was their own fault and they knew the risks and possible outcomes, wouldn't you agree? My objectives are far away from terminating anyone, but my objectives do depend upon my survival, that's true.

Don't your objectives depend on your survival?"
If anything, one had to give her credit for picking up all that already, having only been activated 23 hours ago.

RE: Tenga Cuidado con Piedras

William, who couldn’t possibly be expected to know of the circumstances that brought her to Kote, seeing as though she hadn’t spoken of them before, had only assumed that the people on board the ship with Star were people that she was aligned with.  And he wasn’t about to get involved in a philosophical debate with a computer, since, by its own logic, the computer will always win because it lacks the ability to think outside of itself.  He doesn’t want to insult the android any further, he senses a bit of testiness coming from her, even though she insists that she doesn’t have a personality, so he drops the subject completely and focuses on updating her about his situation.

William: Well, you’ve crash landed on Kote, a once rainforest covered planet that is in the process of being strip-mined by my company, Core Mining.  This is a mining facility where employees come for short vacations.  If you had come here four months ago, you might have been able to find what you’re looking for, but for the past three months this facility has been under quarantine because it is infected with an air based virus.  Don’t know if you’ve heard of it, being as… unaware as you are.

William continues, though he’s talking slowly as though to give her time to process the information.

William: It’s called rockpox.  It’s a highly fatal disease for which there is no cure, though in much of the civilized galaxy it has been eradicated, so why it’s here—

At this point he pauses and an almost pained expression crosses over his face as he remembers the conversation he walked in on Balinor having with his employers.

William: Most of the population of this facility has been wiped out, everyone who was not vaccinated has fallen ill, though there are a few who seem to be naturally immune, like the boy in that room.  If you go further into this wing you’ll find what’s left of our dying.  If you want to know what rockpox looks like you won’t need to look beyond that.

William leans his frame against the wall and shoves his hands in his pockets.

William: Those of us who aren’t sick are trapped here until the quarantine is lifted, and who knows when that will be.

William knows, but plays it off as if it’s still up in the air.

William: And I’m afraid that means you, too, now that you’re here.  Though I wonder why you weren’t stopped from entering in the first place.  It doesn’t matter though, they won’t let you leave.  They have ships out in space keeping very close watch over us down here, anyone who leaves is… terminated.  And as indestructible and indispensable as I’m sure you believe you are, they won’t hesitate to destroy you if they think you’re trying to get out.  The people of Kote come first, in this matter.  The government is terrified of rockpox spreading to its tourist locations.  As soon as we’re free though, they’ll probably snatch you right back up.

RE: Tenga Cuidado con Piedras

Star tilts her head a bit for a few moments as she listens and as patient as she is, she begins to rub her thighs again as if she was idly waiting for him to finish.

"I would not leave anyways as it's not my objective to cause harm nor likely in my interests to spread a disease ... or anyone else's interests, but that is already obvious. As for leaving, you've assumed the wrong thing once again it seems. I know I am not indestructible or indispensable as you can plainly see, I have clear damage to my exterior shell here. I am more highly resistant to general damage than you are, obviously, but I can and will be destroyed by certain parties it seems.

Either way,"
as she gives a brief pause, "even if it's not my highest priority, I can offer assistance if you so wish it. Since it's obvious no one here is trying to stop me from my primary objectives or trying to harm me - on purpose anyways - I see little harm is assisting. Though I'm unsure what I can do as it's highly probable all those infected will eventually die as it is. I might've suggested a solution which involve killing them now to just stop the pain all together, but ... you wouldn't wish that, so I won't."

RE: Tenga Cuidado con Piedras

William: Well... good.  I'm sure Balinor will be glad for your assistance.  She's the one running the show at the moment. And, like I said before, she's the most likely one who will be able to help you with your technical difficulties.

William has always had a very fixed opinion concerning androids and robots and machines in general.  He doesn't like them.  He doesn't trust them to interact positively with humanoids because they can't express themselves, and expression is vital to communication.  He doesn’t trust them because, unless programmed to do otherwise, they act in their best interest first.  They don’t have any sense of loyalty because they don’t have the emotions needed to develop that sense, and when they do, the emotions are a result of programming and can be easily rewritten.

But he appreciates the fact that this particular android is willing to help them, although her suggestion of killing all of the infected to lift the quarantine is a disturbing example of mechanic logic.  If nothing else, it reminds him to be very cautious with her.

It hasn’t been more than half and hour when suddenly Tucker appears at the doorway and clears his throat loudly.

William’s attention snaps to him.

William: Is she awake?

Tucker nods his head and mutters something under his breath that is inaudible.  William doesn’t care to question what and pushes past him into the room.

William: Tuck, find the doctor and let him know.

Tucker complies and shuffles down the hall, dragging his feet as he goes.  He looks distraught.

Balinor is lying in her bed, examining her swollen hand with the coldest of expressions.  It’s swollen and bruised, but it doesn’t look as bad as it did before.  She’s already popped her own shoulder back into its socket, and she doesn’t look up as William comes to her side.

William: The doctor said it’s---
Balinor: A minor fracture of the metacarpal.

William isn’t bothered enough to be astonished.

Balinor: Five, 3.5 centimeter pins, rubbing alcohol, gauze, one metal splint, medical tape.

When William doesn’t immediately begin to search for the things she’s asked for, Balinor finally looks up at him.

William: It’s good to see you back to your old self, Bali.

Her eyebrows raise suspiciously, but she dares to crack a smile.

Sometimes you get a better perspective of things when they're up-side-down.

While not all that surprising that Star had followed William all the way back to Balinor, she actually begins to search for exactly what she had asked for and even without knowing the original locations, she finds all the things asked for in a rather quick manner - at least all of the things that could be found in the room. She gently sets them on a nearby table without a word and sits on the bed next to her, apparently content on staying silent and just watching the two.

Gods know what she was actually 'thinking'.

RE: Tenga Cuidado con Piedras

Balinor takes a mental note of Star as she places the things she’s asked for on the table.  She is only vaguely familiar, and Balinor comes to the conclusion that the android had something to do with her episode, she seems like a properly stress inducing enigma.

Just as she reaches for the pins, the doctor from before scuffles in and swats her hand away from the instruments, fixing her with a stern look.

Doctor: Now now, Dr. Black.  You shouldn’t even be awake yet, let alone fixing up your own injuries.  There are still a few of us who can be useful, and heaven knows that I need a break from swapping out urine-pots.
Balinor: Thank you, Dr. Stern.

He gathers the tools up and sets them on a cart, which he wheels to the other side of the bed.  He situates his rather large self on a stool and begins to work on her hand, half paying attention to anything that’s said.

Tucker has reappeared in the doorway, though he hesitates to step inside.  He’s eyeing everyone in the room warily.

The IV Balinor is still hooked to contains a very strong anti-pain medication, she barely feels the pins as Dr. Stern slides them into her skin, setting them into the bones he needs to set.  Her attention is now glued to the robot.

Balinor: Who’s our friend?

William leaps into a very brief but thorough explanation of everything Star talked about in the hall, and Balinor seems satisfied once he’s finished.

Balinor: STAR.  What’s it stand for?

Star keeps perfectly still except her head and her gaze, which seems to watch and study those within the room with a distant quiteness. As she's asked the final question, she shifts a bit more back into the bed and places her hands in her lap gently.

"Senitent Tactical Android Runner. I can only guess as to why it's that name in specific they choose though. It's possible that the scientists working on me simply enjoyed the name 'star' and then put an offical title onto it, or that there was a point to labeling me as a senitent android. Chances could be that they labeled me senitent due to how my A.I. program runs or the assumption that most androids are more or less computer programs uncapable of learning. Without most of my systems working properly though, this is about all I can give as possiblities." She did seem like a bit of the 'chatter-box' when she was actually addressed, though it did seem to have a point to it.

RE: Tenga Cuidado con Piedras

Dr. Stern finishes putting the pins in her hand wipes away the small trickles of blood with the gauze, before he splints her little finger and wraps it tightly with the tape.

Balinor listens to Star’s rather elongated rationalization and makes some observations as she does.  She’s about to say something when the doctor returns her hand to her, and she almost instantly becomes occupied with examining Dr. Stern’s work.  After a few moments of silent study, she looks up and nods her head approvingly at her colleague.

Balinor: This is good work.  Thank you.

Considering that this is perhaps the only real compliment he’s ever gotten from Dr. Black, he takes it with a huge grin of satisfaction.  And Balinor truly is grateful for it.  The doctor excuses himself then, without another word, though he shoots Balinor a look that suggests she should stay in bed for at least a while longer.  She returns his look with one of her own that sends him scampering down the hall.

Balinor: Tell me about your systems: which ones are working, which ones are not; the extent of the damages you’ve sustained.

Tucker perks up a little at this, and William notices him lingering under the doorframe.  He waves him in, and though Tucker still seems incredibly apprehensive about something, he drags himself in and takes a tentative seat on the edge of Balinor’s bed.

He watches Star with great interest.

A pattern seems to develop and quite noticeably at this point had someone been paying attention enough. When addressed, Star seems rather talktive, but when she wasn't being addressed directly she seemed to be unusally patient - at least in human terms. She also seemed to be still, this being an obvious result of being more of a computer than a human, though she watched the other with what could only be assumed as curiosity even without her expressing any emotions.

Again, Star doesn't fail to reply to Balinor's question. "I have not fully dived into the extents of which systems are working or not, though I've found it probable 90% or more have various errors in them. To this date, I have found that some of the advanced sensory systems, advanced weapon systems, radio retrivial systems, database storing systems, advanced movements control, are at the least working partially as are their sub-systems - if any. My A.I. systems seem to be working without flaws as far as I can tell. Otherwise, any additional systems or their sub-systems are several lines of errors within them. I can also guess that some systems, while not fully active seem to be running at 5-10% efficently, though I cannot say why.

As for the damage sustained, about anything you can view on my exterior shell. Nothing interior has been damaged yet though there are several weak areas where I've either sustained multiple, heavy bullet hits, impacts, or explosions. Noteably right middle-torso and the back of my left shin."
