One of them was much heavier than he was expecting. He heard cans hitting each other inside. Apparently she had brought food along, which was good either way things turned out. He didn't have any food on him, so if they wound up staying together there was probably enough food for the both of them for a day or two. If he wound up killing her and going back to his ship, the food would probably fetch a nice price if he sold it to the other pirates on the ship. The humans on the pirate ship went on and on about how bad the food tasted. He rather enjoyed it, because it reminded him of home. So either way, they were set. "Well, I came in from over there. We're going to have to do some tracking to get back to my ship. I ran for quite a while to get away from the orcs. So, it's possible that we're a couple miles from it. Let's hope it doesn't start raining and wash my tracks away." he said, looking at the sky. He set off towards the edge of the woods where he had entered, taking his time to help Tawny over the rough ground around the crash site. He hoped they would be able to make better time once they got under the trees into the smoother terrain. |

"I really don't see why the hand-holding is necessary." Tawny muttered while rolling her eyes. Well, truthfully she could see why. Her vision wasn't really the kind of thing she could lead herself with - blurring and double vision - and the forest of Tecom was a bad place to be even when you didn't have a concussion. But still, her pride was important to her. As she reluctantly allowed herself to be guided through the trees she absently listened to the sound around her and looking at whatever she could manage to focus on. It surprised her how far the shadows were being cast, it would be getting dark soon and there was a chill in the air. A small shiver ran through Tawny's body. She grit her teeth, she could stand a little cold, it couldn't be any tougher than the deserts of Menos after all. |

He didn't answer, and had to fight the urge to take off running and just leave her behind. However, he knew he would never make it back to his ship without her. Even if just to use her as a distraction. As they continued to walk, Ishkan kept an eye on where the heavy boots he had been wearing earlier had left impressions in the dirt. Luckily the ground was moist enough when he had come through that it had left a fairly good depression. They walked on for a further twenty minutes before Ishkan stopped. With the light growing dimmer, it was becoming harder to see his footprints, and the ground was not as moist here as it had been further down the trail. "Dark will be here quite soon. It's becoming slightly harder to follow my trail. We could either bunk down here for the night, or try to keep on going. I know you don't like the 'hand-holding', but you really don't look too good. So, I'll let you decide." he paused, "Either way, I don't know if a fire is a good idea." he finished, peering around for any unseen beings that might be watching them. |

She mentally told her hand to stop being such a baby before tucking it under her arm. Her teeth wanted desperately to chatter, but she swallowed heavily and took a deep breath before nodding to the bags he was carrying. "I-in the one without t-the c-cans." Dangit, that fragging stutter was making her look weak. "There's a b-blanket. It's pretty w-warm." One problem, the blanket was just big enough for her to be completely cocooned, but if she had to share with him then they would have to be pressed together pretty closely. She sincerely hoped that Ishkan wouldn't want to curl up under the Magnificently Warm Blanket(TM). |
Vega Weird Dude Dominion Master 3/2/2010 1:08:17 AM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 247 | RE: Stranded (OOC: Ah, I didn't realize that you meant he was truly physically holding her hand.) Ishkan set down the two bags and pulled the blanket out of the lighter one. He held it up and looked at its size, seeing that it was fairly small. He tossed it to her and sealed the bag back up. "Alright, you get some rest. I'll stay up and keep an eye out. If it gets too bad, I'll just go into torpor. That is one nice thing about being a Zap'ana." he smiled at her. He left the two bags laying on the ground, and left Tawny to deal with laying down and getting wrapped up in her blanket by herself, after her snide remark about him leading her. He had a feeling that she wasn't used to being helped, and didn't like the idea of it. He walked around for quite a while, keeping his eyes open for any signs of movement. He didn't know much about orcs, such as if they were nocturnal or not. Much less anything else that may have been in those woods. After satisfying himself that there was no iminent danger, he headed back to where Tawny lay in the blanket, and sat down on a fallen log not too far from her. He bundled up as tightly as he could, and then started going into torpor, as the cold night air set in even further. |

Tawny had become so used to wrapping herself up in the blanket that having one arm in a sling barely hindered her. As she snuggled down into the blanket she listened absently to Ishken walking back towards her and closed her eyes. She heard him settle down nearby and after a minute peaked her eyes open. His words from earlier quietly echoed in her mind as she looked at him, absently wondering what he looked like under his armor. It was purely a scientific curiosity, it tended to flare up whenever she was face with a mystery. Zap'ana, huh? she thought to herself. Well, I'll just have to see if I can see him without that armor on. With that, she closed her eyes, pulling her head into the blanket so far that all that could be seen was a tuft of brown hair sticking up, a soft smile crossed her lips as she felt sleep overcome her. Several hours later, she awoke to the sound of something crashing. |
Vega Weird Dude Dominion Master 3/2/2010 1:04:04 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 247 | RE: Stranded Ishkan's eyes slowly came open, after he was startled awake by a loud noise. Because of being in the semi-hibernation, it took his body a minute to come out of it. A lot longer than he wished it did. By the time his eyes were open and he was on his feet, he heard another crash-- nearer this time. He saw Tawny stir, as the noise woke her up as well. He pulled both of Tawny's blasters out of his pockets and got ready. He wasn't looking forward to this. A little bit away, near some undergrowth a deer scrambled into view. Its eyes were wide with fear, and its tounge was slightly hanging out. It was terrified of whatever was chasing it. It didn't take long for them to see what it was. A young orc came busting through behind it. An axe in its hand, and a bow strapped to his back. He gave out a battle cry and kept chasing the deer. Ishkan hoped he wouldn't spot them, as the deer bound in the other direction. It seemed that they would be lucky, as the orc turned and continued to give chase after the poor animal. He was just about to leave through more underbrush when he stopped. His head raised into the air, and he began to sniff. Ishkan cursed silently and readied to two blasters, aiming them at the young orc. Slowly the orc turned, and spotted them. He gave a very loud cry, and through his axe at Ishkan. Luckily the orc was far enough away that he had plenty of time to move out of the way of the axe as it swung end over end at them. It embedded deep into a tree behind them. When the orc saw that his axe had failed, he gave another loud roar and charged full speed ahead towards where Tawny and Ishkan stood. Light errupted from the end of the blasters as Ishkan began firing at the oncoming orc. As the first of the shots ripped into its flesh, it gave a surprised grunt and lost its footing; tumbling into the ground. However, it didn't take it long to get back up and rush again. This time Ishkan made sure to take him down. The orc was only feet from them when it hit the ground dead. "Well, that was close." Ishkan said, turning to Tawny. |
Fyrewyre 3/2/2010 1:17:21 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 95 | RE: Stranded Tawny nodded silently, looking at the orc in disgust before jumping in surprise when her belt started beeping rapidly. Scowling at the offending mechanism she turned it off, offering no explanation to Ishkan as to what it was before going and picking up her blanket. A small square of paper slid out of the blanket. Oh yeah, Tawny had forgotten that was in there. 'That' was in fact a picture of her and her father, taken not too long before his death back when she didn't have implants or scarring and her hair went down to her hips and was kept in a braid. She always kept it on her no matter what. Bending over, the blanket slung awkwardly over her arm, she grabbed the photograph and looked it over. No damage beyond a small amount of crinkling. She really needed to find a better place to keep it in the future. After a moment of looking at the picture, she jolted back to the present and remembered that she needed to pack up the blanket so they could get moving. Now for the fun part. Tawny thought sarcastically as she started trying to fold the blanket. One-armed blanket folding. |
Vega Weird Dude Dominion Master 3/2/2010 1:43:57 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 247 | RE: Stranded Ishkan kept an eye out for anything else while Tawny folded up her blanket and stuffed it in the bag. He had seen that she had stopped trying for a minute, and was holding a piece of paper. He was just about to say something to her when she seemed to snap back into the moment and continue folding the blanket. Apparently the orc had been sent to find food by himself, as there hadn't been any more signs of any foul things around. Though, he figured it wouldn't be long before more orcs showed up. Luckily he had come from the opposite direction that they were headed. He hoped they could steer clear of any more entanglements, at least for a while. Once Tawny got the blanket into the bag, he went over and picked it up, putting it over his shoulder again. He put one of the blasters back in his pocket, but kept one out just in case. The air was still cold, and the night was still deep. He could only assume from the orc hunting, that they must be nocturnal. At least now they would be on their guard. Ishkan thought that perhaps they could stop and take another small nap once the sun came up. However, they would need to take shifts. He wasn't too keen in being blind to incoming threats like they had just been. "Good to go?" he asked her, and then started walking without waiting for an answer. If she wasn't she'd tell him to wait, he figured. |
Fyrewyre 3/2/2010 1:51:48 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 95 | RE: Stranded Tawny took four seconds to start walking after him, the time had been used to place her picture securely into one of her pants pockets, and she had to jog to catch up with him at first. Never mind that he was so much taller than her, she was used to that, the problem was that she had to take like three steps for every one of his in order to keep up. They walked in silence for a while. Tawny closed her eyes for a minute and grit her teeth, she was getting a headache. Unfortunately, when she opened her eyes again she found that Ishkan was no longer in front of her. "Frag." She muttered under her breath before reaching for her sword, deciding immediately that it would be a good idea for the weapon to be out and ready. |
