UPS dropped off an Acer Aspire One today that I had ordered from Tiger Direct specifically for usage over the course of November. Yes, folks, I'm participating in NaNoWriMo. I got an 11.6" model because I handled one of the 10.1" models for a while and how small it was started getting to me pretty quickly. I've been using this one for a good chunk of the day though, and it's pretty much perfect. The 10 incher only runs 1024x600 or something like that, where this one is a comfortable 1366x768 and with much larger keys. Quite nice. I'm going to have to get used to not using the Home and End keys though, because they're relegated to function-toggled keys. So sad. And Windows 7. Despite being only about as snappy as my Vista-equipped desktop computer, that's quite impressive because my desktop is running a 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo and this is running an ultra-low voltage Celeron M at 1.3 GHz. Also, after some getting used to, I actually quite like the new taskbar. So I feel my money was well spent. I've used laptops many times before, but this is my first personally owned laptop, so that's kind of exciting too.
