Valerie Fas'nvak Ex-tournament fighter/ ninja accountant Dominion Master 4/29/2007 6:37:28 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 126 | We Are Live, At the Mesa Falls Resort and Casino! Valerie pulls into the Mesa Falls Resort & Casino entrance. The building is massive. She pulls into one of the two six-story parking garages. Good luck finding an empty space. As much as she hates parking on anything but the first floor of a parking garage, she finally finds an empty spot on the top floor. Killing the engine, she reaches into the back seat, feeling around the floorboard for her butterflies and shoulder holsters. She puts them and her coat on. She steps out of the car and looks over, past the huge golf course adjacent to the casino, and sees the starport. They say Fierra Mesa is little-traveled, but standing here, you wouldn't know it. Valerie: Anyway, I'm on a mission. Susan: Huh? Whuh? Valerie: Talking to myself. Go to sleeeeep, little one. Susan snores. Valerie finds the stairwell and heads down to the ground floor. Supposedly, her mark works on the casino floor, perhaps as a card dealer or somesuch. She walks beneath the pewter arches, between the ornate fountains, and through the store-bought doorway into the casino. |
Daniel Warden Pilot Extraordinaire Dominion Master 4/30/2007 12:50:01 AM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 4 | RE: We Are Live, At the Mesa Falls Resort and Casino! Sitting at one of the many tables was Daniel Warden. He was playing one of his favorite card games, Blackjack. In front of him was a stack of poker chips. He also had some sort of alchoholic beverage in his left hand. After playing a few rounds, he decided he should head up to his room to shower. He finishes up his drink and grabs his chips and starts walking towards the elevators up to the hotel rooms. Along the way, he passes Valerie and bumps shoulders with her. Dan: Oh, sorry. Didn't see you there. |

As smoothly and covertly as possible, she takes a step back to take a quick look at his face. Valerie: ...'sokay. She walks past him. As she disappears into a crowd, she looks over her shoulder to make sure he's gone. Not seeing him, she pulls out the picture of her mark. Not him. She begins surveying the crowd. |
Valerie Fas'nvak Ex-tournament fighter/ ninja accountant Dominion Master 5/1/2007 12:36:49 AM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 126 | RE: We Are Live, At the Mesa Falls Resort and Casino! [The following is converted from a chat log] Valerie approaches the blackjack tables, circling the outside. They did say he might be a card dealer. One of the dealers is wearing a visor, blocking what little light there was from reaching his face. Good work being inconspicuous. She looks over both her shoulders, surveying the rest of the casino patrons. None of them seem to be too interested in watching the tables, and there aren't a lot of players at the moment. Should be a relatively easy takedown. Reaching for his phone, Dan realizes he left it sitting on the blackjack table he was at. Sighing, he turns and heads back over to the table. Valerie walks over to the table and leans on it, pretending to be interested in the game taking place. She looks at the dealer. Still really dark. She stands up straight, looks at the dealer, and coughs loudly. The dealer looks up at her. Yeah, it's him. Dan arrives back at the table and nods at the dealer, who raises his head and smiles. "Forgot my phone." He sees it sitting on the table and grabs it, clipping it onto his belt. Valerie takes a breath. If someone's jumpy and has a gun, she could be in for a bad day. But she could always be in for a bad day, so she freakin' goes for it. She sidesteps and kicks the dealer square in the chest, knocking him and his chair over. Before he can figure out what happened, she unsheathes her katana and puts it up to his throat. The players jump up, but don't seem to be interested in doing anything about it, though they have a few concerned words to speak amongst themselves. Dan rips one of his 1911's from it's holster and points it at Valerie. Dan: Don't bring a sword to a gunfight. Drop it. She holds it in place, looking at Dan out of the corner of her eye. Valerie: Take it easy. This is a bounty takedown. The man is trembling on the floor. His eyes are darting around in terror. Dan: Did I ask you a question? He's a blackjack dealer, leave the poor guy alone. Valerie's words slip. Red haze rising. Valerie: I've got a printout of the bounty. Dan: A bounty hunter, eh? Must not be a very good one to end up in a position like this. Where's this 'printout'? She grits her teeth at the comment. She reaches into her pocket, not taking the time to think about it possibly being interpreted as reaching for a weapon. Oh well. She pulls out a folded up piece of paper and tosses it at Dan. The dealer tries to squirm away and Valerie steps on his arm. Dealer: I can't go back there! Let me go! The work conditions are terrible! Valerie ignores him. Keeping the gun pointed at her, Dan opens up the paper and reads over it. Dan: You're working for Byte? Valerie: Just hunting a bounty. She looks the other way. She mutters some kind of expletive to herself. Valerie: Security guards are coming. I don't think they're going to like this scene. I need to go. She looks in the direction of the entranceway she came through. Three security guards are mucking about there. Nuts. After staring her down for a minute, Dan sighs and holsters his gun. Dan: You owe me. He pulls his coat over his holsters and starts walking casually away. Valerie nods in his direction, even though he's not looking at her anymore. She sheathes her sword and picks the dealer up by the collar. She surveys her surroundings, trying to find an open spot. All of the exits are covered. Over in the middle of a wall is a sign indicating stairs. The door doesn't appear to be intended for use, since it blends in well with the wall around it. Dan heads over towards the bar and orders another drink. After paying for it, he decides he still wants that shower, so he starts walking over towards the elevator. Valerie pushes the guy forward, hurrying toward the door. Dan gets into the elevator, and hits the "3" button, which promptly lights up. The doors close and the elevator heads up. There's a small latch on the edge of the stairwell door. Valerie pulls it and it opens. She pushes her mark through, following close behind, and shuts the door quickly. It's just a windowless stairwell. Nowhere to go but up... Ding! The doors open at the third floor and Dan heads out into the long hallway which branches off in both directions. He hangs a left and heads towards the end of the hall, near the fire exit door, to room "332." Valerie: Quit shuffling! She punches the dealer in the back. He goes a little faster, whimpering. Two floors up, she grabs his shoulder to stop him. She hears steps coming down. She pushes him through the door, finding herself in a long hallway with numbered doors at regular intervals. Definitely the hotel. Dan gets to his door, and reaches into his pocket, pulling out the cardkey for the door. Just as he's about to unlock it, he hears a door open up nearby. He glances to his right, and sees Valerie again. Dan: You again? She looks quickly in Dan's direction. Valerie: ...What would you say if I asked if I can come in? Dan: I would say you owe me a cut of your profits. She doesn't look happy. Valerie: Deal. Dan smiles, unlocking the door and holding it open. Valerie rushes over, shoving the guy along the way and through the door. Dan follows them in, closing the door. He takes off his jacket, and hangs it on the coat hanger, revealing that he has two 1911's, and not one. Dan: What's he worth? After patting her captive down, Valerie stands up and turns to Dan. Valerie: You saw the paper. 2500... Byte doesn't like escapees. She kind of chuckles to herself, thinking about that last word. Dan: I'm suprised a 'bounty hunter' like yourself was dumb enough to to do that in public. You're lucky I don't have an itchy trigger finger. Never taking kindly to insults to her ability, she punches the bed she's standing next to. Valerie: I figured everybody was too wasted and wimpy to do anything. Dan: Assumptions are never a good thing. Finishing zip-tying his hands, Valerie turns the guy around, slaps a piece of duct tape over his mouth, and pushes him to the floor, mumbling a response. Valerie: Yeah, whatever. Dan: You've got quite an attitude to someone who could have killed you ten minutes ago. She looks at him again and blinks a few times. Valerie: ...Sorry? Look, don't get me wrong. Thanks for letting me in here. I'd probably already be in prison or something otherwise. Dan laughs to himself and takes a drink from his glass. Dan: After leaving the military I did some freelance bounty hunting for a few years myself. I know the trade. He plops down in a chair and stretches out. Valerie nods. There's a silence before she figures out something to say. Valerie: What military? Dan: Vansid Airforce. She nods and walks over to the door, looking out the peep hole just as a security guard walks by. Valerie: Guess it's not clear yet... Dan: Where you takin' this guy? Valerie: Orbital station at Tonfe. Dan: Guess I'm going on a trip then. He takes another drink from his glass. Valerie smirks. Valerie: Got a ship? Dan: What would an ex-pilot be without a ship? He winks, then laughs. Valerie: Yeah, well. What kind? Dan: A YT-3400 'Cougar'. A fighter. Two medium autocannon racks, an ion rack, and a missile rail. Valerie: Ah. Dang. Was hoping for a cargo ship... Dan: This is a casino. I'm sure there's plenty of cargo haulers wanting to make their money back. Valerie: Heh. Yeah, I would guess so... She walks over to the window and looks out. Nothing to see. Valerie: Ugh. I wonder if they've stopped looking for me yet. Dan: So, what's your name? And don't give me any fake name either, I know all the tricks. She takes absolutely no action to acknowledge the question. Several seconds of silence pass. She looks at him. Valerie: Valerie. Dan: You can call me Dan-- There's a knock at the door. Dan heads over to the door and peers out the peephole. Dan: Security, eh? He opens the door a crack and pokes his head out. Guard: Greetings sir, have you seen a mad woman with swords running around with a blackjack dealer? Valerie's brow furrows. Red haze rising. I am not a mad woman. Dan: Uh... No? The guard tries to peer in the room. Guard: Mind if I take a look inside? Dan smiles. Dan: Of course not. He opens the door and the guard walks in. The guard sees Valerie and reaches for his walkie-talkie. Dan closes the door behind him and pistol-whips the guard, knocking him out. Dan: No guard is getting in the way of my money. He smiles, as if nothing happened. Dan: Looks like we better get out of here. Soon. Valerie stares at the security guard. For a while. She looks up and glares at Dan. Valerie: I'm not a good bounty hunter? I haven't assaulted casino... per...ssonel--yes I have. She frowns. Dan: I never said I was a bounty hunter at all. He smiles again. Dan: Now, you had better go find a cargo pilot. She grumbles. |

Alex and the crew had gone up to the suite and dropped off their luggage. "Alright," Alex started, "What does everyone wanna do? Do ya'll wanna meet up in a couple hours to eat dinner, or are we just gonna go wild?" They all talked among themselves a minute, then decided that they should probably meet up in a few hours, if for no other reason to make sure they didn't go too crazy at the tables and leave themselves broke. "Alright, let's meet in four hours by the buffet." They agreed, and they filed out of the room, each of them grabbing a key card from Alex. "So, what're you gonna do?" Alex asked Marcus as they were walking down the hallway to the elevator. "I dunno... How about a race down the stairs?" Marcus replied, grinning at Alex. "Yeah, sure... Ready, set.. GO!" Alex said as he bolted ahead of Marcus, and soon they were both down the hall away from the rest of them. "Jeez," Nate started, "Frickin' five year olds.. I'll bet 20 tape that one of 'ems arrested by the end of the night." The others chuckled, and they could hear Alex and Marcus laughing down the hall as they ran. Alex burst through a door marked 'stairs', with Marcus hot on his heels. Alex took a few steps down, then jumped the rail down a half floor. Marcus followed suit, both of them running and jumping down the narrow stairwell like a couple of monkeys. They continued the game, until the fifth floor when both of them were thoroughly exhausted. They were now walking, and panting like dogs in summertime, laughing at eachother. "Dude, I totally would've won." Marcus said, which Alex replied to with, "No way. I'm still faster than you." They grinned at eachother, and made their way to the main floor. Marcus and Alex both made a B-line for the bar, needing a cool drink after their silly race. Alex ordered a beer, and Marcus got himself a Coke-n-Rum. They sat at the bar, casually drinking their beverages as a few lovely women walked by. The ladies smiled at them as they passed, Marcus making a big grin and yelling out, "'Sup sweetie?" One of the girls chuckled and looked away, and her friend started teasing her. Alex smiled and turned around to face the bar again, drinking some more. As they sat and drank, they heard a few people talking about a crazy woman who pulled out a sword in the casino a bit ago. Alex tried to listen, but they were too far away, or would walk by too quickly. He turned towards the bartender. "Woman pulling out a sword on a dealer today huh? What, she lose all her money or something and get mad?" The bartender, looked at him, setting down a glass he just washed. "Well people are saying all kinds of things. Some say she was psychotic, some say the dealer was her ex-lover, some say she lost her money.. Heck, some are saying that she was a bounty hunter, or military or something. Who knows though, right?" Alex looked down into his empty bottle, and just muttered, "Yeah, 'spose so." He slid the bottle away, and said, "Can I get another beer please?" The bartender gave him a thumbs up, and slid another one a few feet down the bar to him... |

Valerie walks over to the door. Dan starts to open it, but she grabs his arm. Without explaining herself, she examines the fire escape plan on the door. Determining the unlikelihood of their escape through a door, she goes over to the window and begins rabidly inspecting its frame. Dan tries to save her some time: Dan: It doesn't open. Okay, plan B. She grabs the lamp from the corner and bashes its base through the window. She gives a few light tugs on the plug. It's pretty tight. If she moves fast, it should hold long enough to get her to the second story roof. She hurries over to her hostage, pulls him to his feet, and pops off the zip tie around his hands. Valerie: Climb out the window. He stands there staring at the window for a moment. Valerie: Move! He takes off into a dead run across the room and leaps straight out the window, slamming headfirst into the corner of an air conditioner. Valerie runs over to the window and stares. It's obvious that guy is dead. Valerie: Son of a butt! She hurriedly climbs out the window. |
Alex Williams Captain and Opportunistic Adventurer 5/2/2007 9:55:28 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 64 | RE: We Are Live, At the Mesa Falls Resort and Casino! Alex and Marcus sat at the bar a while longer, both of them having a few more drinks each. "Well, I'm gonna go play some slots man." Marcus said as he stood up, "You gonna gamble?" Alex sat a second, before responding, "I don't know. I'm gonna sit for a while longer. I feel like relaxing right now, I might play some Black Jack later though.." Marcus smiled and said, "Alright man, wish me luck!" And with that he was off onto the floor, making a B-line for the slots. Alex sat at the bar, watching the tv a few feet to his right up behind the bar. A horse race right now, the excited announcer shouting out which horse was in first, then as that horse fell behind just an inch or so shouted out the new leader, until finally the race was over. Alex ordered another beer, which was now his 8th one. He was buzzed, but not particularly happy. Normally drinking left him a very happy go lucky person. But today, it just seemed to make him irritable towards everyone walking by. Alex eyed the chump that'd just sat down on the stool next to him. The guy looked like a tool, some rich slag-head who decided to come vacation here. Probably had all the money in the world to gamble with, and wouldn't need to think twice about making outragous bets. He could lose several thousand tape, and it wouldn't bother him a bit... Alex continued to brood to himself for a while. Until that is, the guy started trying to make conversation.. "Hey there buddy!" The man said in a loud voice; probably cause he'd drank while he was gambling. The guy tapped Alex on the shoulder, and asked, "So where ya from? What brings you here? Ya know, this is one of my favorite vacation spots! It's so ni-." Alex put a hand up to stop the guy's speech, and said in a very annoyed tone, "I'm not your buddy, first off. Second, I'm here for personal business. And third, I don't give a flying frag if this is your favorite vacation spot. So shut up, and leave me alone." Alex put his hand down, picked up his beer and drained it. The man, now mad that Alex wasn't friendly to him, gave Alex a push. "Hey man! I was just trying to make conversation! Why're you acting like such a jerk?" Alex looked at him and said, "Because you annoy me. You're a rich and snobby slag-head, and you think that just because of that you can just idle up to anyone, start yakking, and they HAVE to be friendly to you. Take your money, shove it up your yeah, and go space yourself." Alex finished his little speech and stood up off the stool. He headed to the front doors of the building, to go outside and have a ciggarette, and made his way outside. He was about to light one up, when someone shoved him from behind. Alex turned, and saw the man from the bar there. The man said, "Tell me to space myself will ya?! Take this punk!" The man swung his fist towards him, but very shoddily. Alex dodged easy, but wasn't gonna let this guy go. He was gonna deal with this disrespectful jerk, here and now... |

Valerie touches down on the roof and walks over to the body. This slags. There is some consolation in that she'll still get 500 tape with a dead guy. Except this Dan guy wants some. Poo. A commotion catches her ear. She looks down to ground level and sees security guards rushing toward the entrance. The parking garage is being abandoned. What luck! She looks up to the window. Apparently Dan isn't coming. Like some kind of assassin with a creed, she climbs down the side of the building using any bumps, crevices, and indentations she can find and runs to the parking garage, stopping behind cover to check on the guards periodically. She makes it to the top of the parking garage unimpeded, enters her car, and drives it to the Mesa Falls Resort Spaceport. She parks in temporary parking and enters the terminal, checking a docking computer for any small transports allowing passengers. Being something of a multitasker, she simultaneously calls the Byte Inc. bounty office to inform them of their employee's untimely demise. |
Alex Williams Captain and Opportunistic Adventurer 5/8/2007 8:56:44 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 64 | RE: We Are Live, At the Mesa Falls Resort and Casino! Alex gave the guy a nasty right hook to his jaw, which nearly knocked the guy down. But the rich son-of-a-gun was tougher than he looked. He tried to rush Alex, which was futile; Alex caught the man by wrapping his arms around his frame and flung him to the ground. He then proceeded to jump on top of the man, and started swinging at his face. By now, security had been alerted and are all over the situation. Namely, they're all over Alex, pulling him off the guy. A guard helps the rich dude up, and takes him a little ways away from Alex. "Ok, what the heck?! What's the explanation for this?!!" A guard yelled in Alex's face, as two other guards held Alex by the arms. Alex just looked at him and explained to him, "Look, I was inside at the bar. Long story short, the guy was jabbering at me way too much, so I told him to leave me alone. Apparentally he was ticked at me, cause he followed me outside where I was gonna have a smoke. He shoved me, then started swinging at me. Self defense man." The guard took a step back, and ordered for the guards to take Alex to the security office. A few minutes after being in the office, with the guards still keeping a close eye on Alex, the head officer from outside came in. "Alright.. The other guy's saying that you were trying to rob him, and that you stole his wallet and all that jazz. However, I asked the bartender and he validated your story. So, you're not going to jail my friend." The officer walked around to the other side of the desk and sat down. Alex let out a sigh of relief, but then the officer started again, "However, you put quite a beating on the guy. A little excessive, and you disturbed alot of people outside. I'm fining you One hundred and fifty tape for disturbing the peace. You can either pay, or if you don't have the funds you can serve a few days in jail. What's it gonna be?" Alex glared at the guy, and muttered, "I'll pay.. Can I reach for my wallet?" The officer nodded, and Alex took out 150 and tossed it on his desk. "Can I go now?" Alex asked, ready to get out of there. "Yes you may. Oh, also, I'm gonna have to ask you and whoever's with you to leave the premesis within the hour. Standard proceedure.. Come back in a week or so if you like. Come before then, there'll be trouble." Alex started out the door and just said, "Whatever dude." As he walked out of the office and down the hall, back to the main casino floor. Alex sent text messages to all of his friend's communicators, merely saying, 'We have to leave. Security says so. Meet at the ship.' And with that, he made his way outside and towards the parking garage. He went up to the roof section where his ship was, and idled over to it. He squatted by the ship and waited. His comrades came a little while later, Marcus and Mel, then Nate, Scott, and Jen. When they were all there, Marcus asked the question everyone wanted to ask, "What happened?" Alex explained the situation, and although they were all a little mad about missing out on their vacation, no one had hard feelings toward Alex, understanding that if they could've stayed they would. They got on the ship, and Scott asked Alex, "Shall we leave Alex?" Alex was about to say yeah, when he decided against it. "No. We still have a little while before we have to leave... Put out a short-range ad that there's a ship with room for one or two people headed for Perranor.. Might as well see if we can get some of that lost fine money back right?" Scott nodded in agreement, and proceeded typing up the ad. Alex pulled a fold up chair out of the storage closet, and walked outside. He unfolded it, sat down, and lit up a cig. Marcus came out to keep him company, leaning against the side of the ship. Marcus started smoking too, and they both had taken several drags, when Marcus grinned and looked down at Alex. Alex looked up and asked, "What?" Marcus kept grinning and asked, "How bad'd ya beat him?" Alex smiled and said, "Heh, pretty good. One to the jaw, threw him on the ground and whaled on his face a bit. Nothing broken, I don't think, but he's gonna have that make-up on for a few days." They both laughed a bit, and continued relaxing... |
