Stasis Hey Claudius... You killed my father. Big mistake. Dominion Master 9/14/2007 1:21:40 PM Level: 25 Experience: 65000 Total Posts: 691 | Community input: Time standard In the past, Wolf and I have worked on an original calendar. It's incomplete, and we've just been using the Gregorian calendar in Daireem. This is possible due to the Dominion Masters having come from Earth, but it would make no sense to the denizens of Daireem, as on some planets 5:00 PM would sometimes be in the middle of the night and other times in the middle of the day due to different orbits in space. So, what do you guys think of new calendars? Too complicated to implement and too confusing for the players to use, or a cool feature? |
Zenya New User 10/3/2007 3:31:49 AM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 6 | RE: Community input: Time standard I don't think day and night matters in Daireem. Since not all planets (or none) are on a 24 hour rotation cycle. Therefore time is relative... days still have 24 hours but day and night just don't excist. Implementing a new time table and calendar would, for me, be very cool, but VERY complicated. Just keep the normal time and calendar, just eliminate day or night settings. |
Raelan inventor/mage 12/28/2008 8:45:53 PM Level: 1 Experience: 0 Total Posts: 94 | RE: Community input: Time standard they could just call a 'day' a 24 hour period, and give it some other name because the dominion lords were too lazy to implement a new calendar system, so after 365 24 hour units it cycles again, year would become the name of this cycle, and the daireem term for year could just be an orbit, or some other such simplistic term. that requires the least work, and each planet would have their own monthly calendars to keep track of weather and stuff. that gives you a standardized unit for time measurement, and a realistic approach for each planet, and if they only kept track of their age in 'orbits' it'd be a fairly simple math equation to give you their rough age in years, based on how long that planet's orbits are |

I'm going to post the details on it for posterity plus for anyone who may be interested. ---- Meeriad was created on Sunday, June 15, 3 AD (our time) 1000 milliseconds -> 1 second (Duh =P) 60 seconds -> 1 minute 60 minutes -> 1 hour 30 hours -> 1 day 5 days -> 1 week 7 weeks -> 1 month 35 days -> 1 month 10 months -> 1 year Days: 1 Torva 2 Satri 3 Mista 4 Teei 5 Fooah Months: 1 Shuudap 2 Swiya 3 Emfur 4 Leetary 5 Richip 6 Slotsip 7 Aykay 8 Reezam 9 Eiu 10 Triskum On one of the iterations of the Meeriad site software, this calendar was going to be built-in, but the hard drive it was on crashed and, oddly enough, there was no backup. Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled thread already in progress. |

All of the day and month names are, of course, terrible. |
